A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE

 

  • Secured not only 1 Tornado Siren for our district, but 3
  • Successfully fought against Consolidated City Jail Expansion to our area of the city
  • Initiated action to help bring the Prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) designation to Antioch High School (only Hillsboro High School in Green Hills and Hillwood in West Nashville have IB World designated schools)
  • Spoke before the Tennessee Board of Regents to help secure Nashville State College in Southeast Nashville
  • Served on the Metro Board of Parks and Recreation with no pay to advocate and secure our much needed Community Centers as other areas of the city had received.  (1 has been built at the former Hickory Hollow Mall where Early Voting is taking place and the 2nd is planned and funded to be built on Smith Springs Road)
  • Helped to advocate and secure Southeast Nashville’s Ford Ice Center where skating lessons are taught to our children by World Olympian Scott Hamilton.
  • Fought to maintain funding to build our brand new Fire Hall 33 on Forest View Drive.
  • Sponsored bills to limit overdevelopment and to remove high density condominiums from Smith Spring Road and other areas.
  • Helped to raise money for the new playground at Lakeview Elementary Design Center School.  Also had old fencing removed on the front perimeter of school and a new black chain link fence to secure the new playground area.
  • Co Sponsored bill to prohibit sex clubs locating within our business districts that are close to schools, churches, parks and residences.
  • Co Sponsored Urban Design Overlay to ensure consistent design standards with development along our most undeveloped corridor on Murfreesboro Rd.
  • Voted for increased additional sidewalk funding from 18 M to 25 M to help fund new sidewalks that are in high demand in our neighborhoods.  My continued goal is to fight for our fair share of Metro’s resources.
  • Successfully worked for additional crosswalks, bike lanes, traffic calming, signaling, bus shelters, and transit improvements for our area.  (secured the long wanted Castlegate/Clearlake Drive traffic light and the traffic light at Hamilton Church Road.  Also added a turn signal at Forest View Drive and Murfreesboro Road.)
  • Voted to make funding schools a top priority.
  • Supported continued and increased funding to complete back logged paving and stormwater projects.
  • Supported expansion of parks with a new planned and funded community center for Smith Springs Road and 1 million in improvements for Una Park.
  • Helped to keep our area’s golf course by listening, negotiating and working with the community and government to provide purchase opportunity to Attorney David Waynick, owner of Gran Dale Manor, who is vested in our community.
  • Co Sponsored bill to create a codes violation school to give our judges another tool to use so that there is improved turnaround time to correct issues.
  • Co Sponsored bill to limit the number of cash/check advance/pawn shops clustering and locating in the same area.
  • Submitted funding for widening of Smith Springs Rd.
  • Major roads such as Nashboro Boulevard, Old Murfreesboro Rd and Smith Springs Rd were paved and funding was increased to complete backlogged paving projects.
  • Funded new bus shelters along Murfreesboro Rd and transit improvements
  • Provided elementary school funding so 20 portables were able to be removed.
  • Approved funding for new Smith Springs Elementary School
  • Increased funding for Pre-K programs and expanded NAZA after school programs for our area.
  • Supported funding to provide property tax relief to our Senior Citizens and Veterans
  • Assisted seniors with application process for property tax freeze.
  • Increased funding for additional brush pickups.
  • Held regular Office Hours in the District and Community Meetings.
  • Helped with efforts to Bring Cane Ridge High School to Reality to reduce 26 portables at Antioch High.
  • Helped bring the first run student run credit union which was the first in Davidson County in partnership with the Tennessee Teachers Credit Union to Antioch High.
  • Helped to bring the first and largest (vocational) career and technical fair for 9th grade students to the former Nashville Convention Center.
  • Organized the first Safety Forum for Southeast Nashville with all law enforcement from Metro Police, Sherriff’s Office and the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhoods at Antioch High for our community.
  • Founder of our area’s largest single family event “The Southeast Nashville Egg Hunt & Festival.
